Watching these film openings from artofthetitle.com has given me a good idea of how we could do our opening titles. They have shown me that the title of the film doesnt have to go at the beggining and also it gave me an idea of the relevent information needed to be given at the beggining of a film and the difference between the opening titles and the credits at the end.

Monday 8th November

In this lesson our pitch was accepted and we started planning our story board, we are nearly finished it and next lesson we may go out and take pictures of some locations that may be good for our opening to a teen horror.
Opening Ideas
Opening Idea 1.

Two teenage girls called Victoria and Sarah are walking home from a friends house, and take a shortcut through a nearby alleyway. Sarah stops to tie her shoelaces and Victoria goes on ahead on her mobile phone. She then notices that Sarah isn't there anymore and thinks she's just messing around. She walks further back into the alley and discovers Sarahs dead body, before she registers this, a voice comes out of the shadows and says 'Your Next'. Victoria then tries to run back towards her friends house but someone grabs her from behind and stabs her.

Opening Idea 2.

A teenage girl is taking a walk through the woods to go meet her friends for a camp out. As she walks through a number of strange things start to occur on her walk. She hears noices and thinks its her friends messing around but as she walks on her friends dont seem to be at the place where they are going to meet. She tries calling them put theres no answer so she carries on walking incase they're on their way. As she turns the corner of the pathway she spots a trail of blood, she then decides to follow it. The teenage girl is then suprised at what she finds at the end of the trail, a dead body.

For our opening we have decided to choose opening 1 as we think this links more into the plot of our teen horror film. We now have ideas of who to cast and different locations we could use.

Tuesday 26 October 2010

In this lesson we were given the task of coming up with an idea for our horror film. we have to pitch an idea to mr henton to see if he think it may work and then from that we can enter the pre production stage of our horror film. we also were told about the pre production stage (part before filming), the production (filming) and post production (editing and distribution stage).

these are pictures of our storyboards which we used to plan our preliminary task. we did follow the basics of them but we also added different shots in and changed a couple of camera angles and effects.

Tuesday 12 October 2010

In todays double lesson we completed editing our preliminary filming so it made a full and fluent flowing movie.

Monday 6th October wrong turn opening

In the lesson we watched the first 5 minutes of a film called wrong turn.

For our homework we have to write about this opening explaining the visual and audio effects.
Wrong turn opening
In the opening of Wrong turn the visual effects that are used to scare the audience are at the beggining of the opening where it is a birds eye view of this wooded and isolated area so this gives us the impression that there alone and this gives us an idea that something is going to happen. The next is when the two people are climbing up the wall the camera is looking down at them this gives the audience and idea that some thing is there looking down on them.

Other camera angle that are used are when the girl is looking up at the boy when he's reached the top this camera angle is called a point of view shot, a hand held camera shot is used and a close up.

There is a chase scene in this opening and a hand help camera is used during this shot to make the audience feel what the acter is feeling whilst being chased. Chase scenes are used to make the audience scared of whats chassing the actor.

Quick cutting and false scares are very good visual effects when making a horror film because quick cutting gives the effect of a build up to the actual scare and makes the audience feel anxious about whats gonna happen, and false scares are used to make the audience feel a little bit at ease so the false scare happens and then they know that after it the real scare will come it also keeps the audience on the edge of there seats.

audio effects
these are used to build up tension and keep the audience waitiong. They use audio effects by one building up the music as it gets closer to the scare two they enhance the sounds of things that are happening in that scene and three you normall here something on horror films before you see it.

Some examples of where these audio effects are used is when the boy is slamed to the ground his body as it falls it makes a jumpy thud noise but this noise is enhanced to make the audience jump so its actually louder than it would be. When we see his body hanging over the cliff we hear the blood drip off him before we see it land on her this effect is used to make the audience wonder where the noise is coming from.

Monday 4thOoctober opening of horror films

In todays lesson we started to look at the openings of some horror films the films we watched were the following: jeepers creeper, jeepers creepers 2 and dead wood. We were watching the openings of these horror films to look for conventions these can be things like the narratives-the plot, the story and what happens. Characters- who is in it. Settings- where it takes place. Iconography- things that have an ionic value. In the openings of some of these horror films the convention used was fake scare thios is when something makes you jump but isnt scary so for example in jeepers creepers 2 when the boy suddenly puts the scarecrow up it makes you jump but isnt scary.

history of horror films 29th september

In todays lesson we were told to reasearch and right about the history of horror films.

Downloading from the camera to the macs 27th september

In this double lesson it was split up into two parts one was half of us were with Mr Henton learning how to download footage from the Canon Legira cameras on to the mac's and the second part was half of us went with the cameras around school practising to use the cameras and the different camera angles and techniques.
In the part of the lesson were we learned how to download footage from the cameras to the macs we were also taught some transitions and effects that we could use on final cut this is good because if we use them on our preliminary task it will make it look more interesting.

Intruducing final cut 22nd september

In our school, KBA we use the Final Cut Express program to edit. In the lesson we were taught the basics of the the program so we could start to play about with it to get used to it so when it comes to our preliminary task we will be clear on how to use it. We were given a link which we could go on to see further instructions on how to use it to develop our skills.

using the video cameras 20th september

In our lesson on the 20th september we learned how to use the Canon Legira video cameras and the tripods which we have in school, So that we can use them in the future to film our preliminary task.
